3d Printed Infinity Base Marker Widget and More with Shapeways

Marking the Front Arc of a base is crucial for Infinity, but is inaccurate to do using your eyeballs or a paper template. Thus, it was time for some quick engineering!

This tool was designed in TinkerCAD, which is a free website where you can create 3d models for 3d printers. The tool uses the 3 base sizes of Infinity; 25mm, 40mm, and 55 mm. I made one for Warmachine/Hordes base sizes too since I am a nice guy.  If you do not have access to a 3d printer, you can get objects printed on professional grade printers at Shapeways. I am looking over Shapeways' miniatures page looking for neat additions to enhance to my games, like 3d tokens for Mice and Mystics or the Starbago from Spaceballs for X-Wing.

There is a lot of potential for tabletop terrain on the miniature railroad page. as well. For instance, dumpsters for scatter terrain in Infinity. Coke machines or astromech droids as objective markers? Window vents to spruce up buildings, like my electrical box buildings? Every table needs a TARDIS, right? Ideas abound!

Not Dead, Just Dad

Sorry for the silence. My wife and I just had our first child, so that is a thing....Anywhooo, I painted these 4 figs for my Ariadna Infinity force. Nice to know that I can still find time to hobby with a baby.

Also, I am TOing my first Infinity event this weekend. A 150 pt Beginner's Bootcamp. The Kansas City area's first Infinity tournament. Woot!

Multiplayer Infinity: Aristeia Gladiator Battle

We ended our "Welcome to N3" 7-week league with a big event. The first league, I tried to have everyone fight a giant robot, but that failed, since they killed the robot too easily. Instead, I took some ideas from other Infinity events and a Malifaux brawl that I ran to create this mission. The link will take you to the Google Doc, which you can feel free to edit and or use to your heart's content.

The rules work fairly simple. Everyone can take a single multi-wound model, either 2+ wounds, Dogged, or No Wound Incap, that isn't a TAG or Achilles. You roll Initiative to see who places their figure first, and activates first. Then you play 5 rounds with the following scoring.

• 3 points for knocking an enemy to Unconscious or Dead, but not points for both. No Coup de Gras can be executed. Unconscious models will just die at the end of the order that they will killed. Exception: Regeneration, but the killer will still score points, as if their target died.
• 1 point for assisting in a kill, which means causing at least 1 wound to a model. Immediately score this point, when the Armor roll is failed, no matter if the model is healed later.
• 1 point for turn in which you didn't die.
• -3 points for a death and get sent back to a random deployment zone on the next turn.
Players’ scores cannot go below zero.

I took a HoloProjector lvl2 Selpuchere Knight that disguised himself as a lowly Fusilier. He battled bravely against Ajax, Phoenix, Father Knight, and a Chronotid. Sadly for the Church, the evil E.I. won the day with the Chronotid punishing the other combatants with its cowardly Plasma weaponry.

One thing that I would change, is that I would let any respawning players be able to place their model anywhere on the board on the final round, so that way people can get some revenge kills. The mission was a hit, everyone enjoyed themselves, and they said that they would like to try it again.

Infinity - Knights...IN.SPAAAACCEEEE!

I broke out a dream team list for my Military Orders of PanOceania at my 300 pt League night yesterday. Magister Knights have always been my favorite models, rules-wise, in Infinity, but they are actual good models in N3, where they were gimmicks in the last edition.

The trick with this list is to use the Joan of Arc with the Magister Knights as a Coordinated Order. This way, you can use the Magisters' Panzerfausts, which are Burst 1, and Joan as the SpearHead to shoot her Spitfire with 2 dice at a single target. Coordinating, like this, only gives your enemy a single ARO, which can really take away the power from an enemy Link Team.
Another trick is to start the Magisters linked, so they are not Impetuous. Alternatively, you can start them Impetuous on Turn 1, in order to use their Impetuous as free movement, dubbed the "Slingshot." This tactic would burn a precious Command token to form the link though, so it probably is not worth it in N3.
Either way, it is nice that you can load up on Knights now, where in N2, Military Order lists lived and died by the lowly Order Sergeant.

Aleph Toolbox - An Infinity Roster Builder that can Print Out - Yes!

No more hand writing Infinity lists like an Atek anymore! http://anyplace.it/ia3/ia.html

My list that I am going to try out for this week with my Military Orders.
This list has the following tricks/tech
  • Joan spends her LT order for a free Coordinated Order each turn.
  • Joan makes the WarCor into a Regular order, so a human NetRod!
  • HMG Fusilier is a human turret, who will be in Suppression Fire all day, everyday, unless I see a need to link up for some 5 dice action.
  • Magister Knights make good Coordinated Orders with Joan since Panzerfausts are Burst 1 anyway. Plus, they can cut through terrain, notably the Objective Room, with their Exploding close combat weapons.
  • Two different units with Multispectrum Visor 2 to combat Camo/Smoke/ODD.
  • Smart Missiles to hurt things with an AP+DA template, or use hacking to fire Burst 2 missiles in ARO.

Cheap Infinity (or any Wargame) Tokens with Scrapbooking Materials

Tokens, Tokens, Tokens. You can use 1 inch clear epoxy bottle cap pendant stickers to make cheap tokens. I also have a Martha Stewart 1" scrap-book punch. Just buy a bunch off of Amazon because these bottle caps are much more expensive in a Hobby/Art store. I bought 200 of them because I wanted to provide enough for multiple players since I am working to grow Infinity locally.

The Operation: Icestorm tokens are perfect for using this trick, too! You can see the left token is plain, and the right one has a bottle cap on it. A thing to not is that the bottle caps may get stuck to the paper backing, if this happens just bend the bottle cap gently, and the paper will separate off.

So fancy! No more rummaging through a sandwich bag for this gentleman!

Smoke markers are cotton that is hot glued to a penny and sprayed black. I just place the token, measure the distance, make the PH roll to throw the grenade, and then hold the template over the marker whenever I need to check Line of Sight. This way I don't have to fuss over moving terrain or models.

Infinity 300 pt MRRF army: Mechs & Werewolves go together like Peanut & Chocalate

Here is my 300 pt army of the Merovingian Rapid Response Force for Infinity. The army was completed for the Mayacast 300 Army Challenge, which is due December 1st. I wanted to get it finished before the Thanksgiving holidays. Also, it was a joy to paint for a purpose. I chose this army to be based off of a Fairy Tale story,

Briscards, the 5 Brothers

The secret to my success was painting a little bit every day. This way I was consistantly making progress. Also, I spoiled myself by painting the coolest model, the Anaconda TAG first, which I usually save the centerpiece models for last, and paint the grunt models first.

The Anaconda, the Huntsman

Margot, Little Red Riding Hood
Duroc, the Big Bad Wolf
Foreground: Chasseur, Gretel
Background: 112 Emergency, Hansel

Works in Progress: Infinity Army and a Meganob

Here are my Infinity Merovingian Rapid Response Force army models that I am painting up for the MayaCast paint challenge. These 2 models are Traktor Mul remotes.

The MRRF is a low-tech French army, so I decorated them with a lazy Canadian flag and forest type foliage.

Here is a WIP shot of the rest of the army. I had to paint my fireman with a fancy yellow jacket.

Now matter how much I love Infinity, I cannot resist the call of Gork/Mork. I converted up a random Meganob out of stuff that I had lying around the bits box. I was inspired by a Marvel comic with Stilt-Man in it.

Infinity Anaconda TAG Finished with 3d Printed Base

Here is my Anaconda TAG and pilot for my Mayacast challenge. The mech was very fun to paint because I love painting green, and the large details were relaxing to paint.

This may be a record for the fastest that I have finished a miniature after priming.
Here I am basecoating with Vallejo Highland Green and Bronze.

Here is the miniature before a wash of GW Nuln Oil with a highlight of the same Vallejo colors.
Here is a better shot of the bases, which were printed off my classroom 3d printer using PLA plastic, so it is made of corn! Science in my Sci-fi!

No Disintegrations: Infinity Authorized Bounty Hunter.

The Authorized Bounty Hunter is the free miniature that you get for preordering the Infinity 3rd Edition book. The Authorized Bounty Hunter (ABH) is a merceanry miniature that you can take 3 in any ITS army list (AVA 3) in a non-Sectorial (Non-theme) army, a.k.a. Vanilla army. Here is their profile below.

The ABH has a special rule, where you can roll on the Booty Lvl2 table. As you can see, one of these rolls results in ARM +3, which explains why the preorder ABH miniature is so heavily armored. Also, the mini is a homage to Appleseed, which inspired much of the look of PanOceania.
If you place a preorder for the new Infinity book by November 13th, 2014, then you get the free ABH mini. You don't need the book to play since Corvus Belli puts the rules for free online, but if you want an earlier look at the rules, and want to read the (excellent) story, get the book.

300 pt Infinity List MayaCast Paint Challenge

The guys over at the MayaCast are having a 300 pt Infinity list painting challenge. You need to email a 300 pt list from the official army builder along with a timestamped photo of your minis by November 1st. The minis can be unassembled, assembled, or prime, but cannot have any non-primer color on them. Then, you need to email a finished photo by December 1st to the hosts. Everyone that completes their challenge will be entered into a raffle for Operation: Icestorm. I am entering mainly to encourage myself to paint a new faction.

My Infinity Demo Table

I gave another demo of Infinity the other day. I tried it out on a 2x2 play field because 4x4 seems to be too large for below 150 pts. 2x2 was probably too small due to having to modify deployment, but it was better than playing a full size table. We used YAMS missions to get each other moving around the board. I love my Shark Mounted Lasers terrain. Also, I enjoyed the Deadzone terrain mat. It gave the table a certain panache. Shark Mounted Lasers terrain

Here is the link to my running collection of posters that I have used. Posters Google Doc

I have given so many demos at this point that I wish my WarCor application was accepted. Hint, hint, Corvus Belli, if you so how read this....

Why Infinity is Awesome: Breaching Terrain with Demo Charges

Here is the highlight of our Supplies mission game, and shows why I love Infinity. First, you see our board. This instance occurs on the large garage on the right side. The blue/grey buildings are from Shark Mounted Lasers.

It is Turn 3, the final turn, and my TO specialist is hiding out of sight with a mine protecting his flank, and Order Sergeants covering him.

On Opponent's side, he has an Irmandinho, who has a Chain Rifle and D-Charges on the exact opposite side of the same garage. First, the Irrmandinho places a D-Charge and blows a template sized hole in the wall.

Next, the Irmandinho charges through the breach, and catches all of my Order Sargeants and TO Specialist under the Chain Rifle template.

My models fire back at the Irmandinho with Combirifle AROs since I cannot cancel out the direct template shot, and to dodge would be at -6 to my PH, so needing a 4. All of my models fail their Armor rolls, but they get vengeance on the crafty, murderous Irmandinho.

Thus, I lose my Supply box, and opponent sweeps the objective points for max scoring. Here are more shots from the day. We played Antenna Field and Supplies from the ITS 2014 document.

Autocannon Tank Hunter gibs my Link team of Order Sergeants.

This TO Specialist survived 3 turns of armor rolls before finally failing an armor roll of 1 caused by an angry Scots man's axe.

A sniper duel rages, as my Order Sergeant fires at an enemy Cateran sniper on the roof of the far building in the background. The OS sniper wins via the 5-man Link team bonus of +1 Burst and +3 BS.
