Galrauch WIP: 25,000 Views
BA-GAWK! Thanks to my readers for the 25,000 views. I hope something you have seen here has inspired you to paint something in your hobby. I wish to pay it forward for those that have inspired me.
Galrauch has been a very enjoyable paint process. His red is super easy in that I primed yellow spraypaint, washed twice red, and washed twice purple. Boom. Easy red.
This is after the first red wash and before the purple wash of course, so you can see the effect. I need to paint fast, but still want a solid tabletop standard.
I wanted to convey the fact that Galrauch is constantly in flux as the Tzeentch Daemon and High Elf dragon jockey for control of the body. Thus, I wanted everything to look fleshy and corrupted. With one eye looking dragon-like and one avian-like (Ba-gawk above).
The base seemed to have an empty space, so I searched the bits box for a victim, and decided to show a dwarf body, as if Galrauch collapsed a dwarf hold ala Smaug in The Hobbit.

Warriors of Chaos Monster Mash: Galrauch the Great Pain
I managed to find a metal Galrauch the Great Drake when the new Warriors of Chaos book dropped. I have always loved the model and the fluff, even though many think he is ugly as sin.
Big G is so heavy and he is based on a 50x50 Daemon Prince base, so I decided to be lazy/ingenious and to weigh him down with rocks from my landscaping. He is held together with a combination of pinning, ZapAGap superglue, and green stuff. G-man surprisingly turned out pretty solid. Sad Face: you can see that I glued his lower head on upside down in the above picture. I decided just to hacksaw it off and repin it rather than break off the neck.
I traded for some old Albion models to add in some variety to my troll horde. I am a huge fan of ManThing.
I am up to 12 painted/based trolls now. Soon, I will be able to run the horde of 18. I don't think it will be tactically sound, but I have always dreamed it since I started Warriors of Chaos in the last book, before Throgg was cool. That's right, I am the hipster troll.

Warriors and Orks: Updating Old Models
Here are my Nurgle Warriors repainted for the new army book. I now have a secret love of basing the movement tray. I think it makes it look a lot more natural and has a good flow from the model to the table.
I am slowly working towards my troll horde. I am now up to 12 painted trolls.

Tzeentch and Nurgle Chaos Warriors Repaints: Electric Boogaloo
I painted my Chaos Warriors WHFB army about two years ago. It was my first fully painted army, too. Thus, my skills have improved, so I am going back and updating the army for the new book.
I wanted the warriors to look like they where glowing suits of armor. The BSB (Skull guy) is the skull collector for my Sorcerer, so he can analyze the brains of enemy mages. My fluff is that the Sorcerer sacrificed his warband to gain power ala the manga, Berserk.
I am repainting what was my Khorne Warriors into Nurgle ones. The Tzeentch warriors are the souls of the warriors, where the Nurgle ones are the bodies. I am painting the skulls' eyes glowing blue to show that they are powered by Tzeentchian magic.

Kitbashed Throgg the Troll King: Who's the Barf Boss?
Here is my plastic Throgg that is made up of the mutants from the Warshrine kit and Daemon Prince bits. The Finecast model is beautiful, but I worry about its durability.
Family photo of all my little Chaos Hulks.
Tried to make him WYSIWYG as possible with the great weapon and skull crown. Armor reminds me of Regen being a 4+ for trolls.
I don't think I will be forgetting stomps anytime soon....

Warriors of Chaos: New Book, First Thoughts
Picked up the new Warriors of Chaos army book for WHFB. Here are my initial thoughts since this has been my main army since the start of 8th edition.
The Marks of Chaos have all been redone. A hero/lord must have the same mark as the unit it joins. This ends the era of min/maxing marks for the most part, but I welcome the change.
Slaneesh - Auto-pass any Fear, Terror, or Panic test.
Tzeentch - Gain a 6+ ward save or improve the existing one by +1.
Khorne - Model has frenzy.
Nurgle - Enemy models have -1 to hit you in close combat.
Right away, Nurgle seems to be the most interesting mark and good synergy with Chaos Warriors since hitting them on 5s, having 3+ armor, 6+ parry, then possibly Regeneration from the Nurgle lore seems nasty. The Nurgle lore can also further lower enemy toughness and WS, so I am seeing connections there.
As much as it pains me to admit, Tzeentch magic is terrible now. If you hit a unit with magic with Warpflame property (all of the spells), and the enemy unit passes a toughness test, they can gain Regeneration (6+) or improve their existing regen by +1. If they fail, D3 enemy models take hits with no armor save.

There aren't any indications that Warpflame is a flaming attack beyond fluff and the spell names. Thus, I expect your enemy to be recieving lost of regens, especially against armies like Ogres. Luckily, Tzeentch sorcerers can take Lore of Metal instead. Tzeentch approves of turning your enemies to gold, yes?
A single great weapon Khorne Marauder now costs 11 points. Gone are the days of 50 lumberjacks chopping down the enemy. This was an expected change. I am now looking at possibly running small squads, maybe 20 man with flails, to back up a Chaos Warrior block.
All of the monsters are really playable except the Slaughterbrute, which is ho-hum in its rules. Hellcannons surprisgingly got better. They now have a 5+ ward save and all of their attacks are magical (shooting, close combat, and stomps). Trolls lost their magical vomit, so I will no longer chunder rainbow puke on ethereal models. Throgg is beautiful in both his model and rules, but not his price ($58). He is worth it, though.
More to come, but this is just a snapshot from my first night of reading. Overall, the army is very different, but more balanced and flavorful. There are a variety of options to choose from.

So, a Chaos Sorcerer and a Warjack walk into a bar....
....and they both said "OUCH!"
I got bored of running 2 Ironclades in Warmachine since they are good at what they do, but not good enough to ever run two. There were many times that I wanted to have a Defender and a Cyclone, so it was time to change my old metal Ironclad into a Cyclone.
I love the Cyclone for 2 reasons. First, big chain guns! Second, 2 handed throws allow me to go all Macho Man in game.
Here is my Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord from the newish plastic kit. I hate, hate, hated his goofy sword, so that had to be clipped off. I want to put a little marionette puppet in his hand to represent the Infernal Puppet wargear, but I am not sure how to pull it off.
I rock a bit of wet blending on the staff to try a new technique.
Oh, yeah. I also threw together this easy Nurgle Sorcerer out of spare pieces from the Corpse Cart that I bought for a Warshrine. His out-stretched hand is from an Ungor. He may be too vampirey, but I don't know what to add.
I wanted to make him look like he is shooting a spell at his target since I use him to snipe characters with the Nurgle signature spell. He really saved my bacon against Vampire Counts by killing the BSB.

WoC 2200 Results: "The Middle Man"
I ended up placing 8th out of 16 players. I ended up playing 3 games. I had tons of fun and got to eat this for dinner. New York Dawg Pound (Not in NY).
That is is one hot dog with bacon and egg. Another with Pico de Gallo (Beak of the Chicken), sour cream, and a tortilla. Delicious.
Here are the tournament results.
Game 1: Dwarfs - WON
Props
++ My Wizard for playing Yahtzee with Infernal Gateway, yet not miscasting.
++ Warhounds for putting the pressure on Dwarf warmachines.
Slops
++ 2 Rounds of 2 Shooting Hellcanons causing ZERO causalities.
++ The game being really one-sided in my favor against a great guy with beautiful, classic minis.
Game 2: Ogres - LOST
Props
++ Not Much
Slops
++ My Deployment. See my derpy deployment of 18 Khorne Warriors in front of 25 Tzeentch over by the hour on the right? HURRR. This cost me the game, most likely
++ Hellcannons aren't as cool without D6 stomps.
Game 3 - Vampire Counts - LOST, Oh Boy. REALLY LOST
Props
++ Sorcerer Lord flying around and Yahtzee-ing Infernal Gateway. I have yet to suck a unit into the warp and I have been playing for almost a year, :(
Slops
++ Only having one unit with a magic weapon againist TONS of ethereal units. The Sorcerer Lord.
Vampire Counts player, who is one of my favorite players, just reamed me with his list. Turn 1: A bunch of banshees and a Terrorgeist jump up to me and scream at me. This screaming causes me to lost 19 of my 25 Tzeentch warriors and the unit flees. It was pretty much game over from there. Undead units being Immune to Psych is a pain, too. It makes my Hellcannon and Tzeentch magic not as good.
Lessons Learned
++ Bring Magic weapons
++ 2 Hellcannons isn't insta-win
++ My goofy Chaos gifts aren't any help or that fun.
++ Breath Weapons go at model's initiative. This fact may have cost me my Ogres game since the Dragonhide Banner gave my Khorne Warriors ASL.
++ Run some Trolls or something since the army felt BORING without something wacky.

Warriors of Chaos 2200 Tournament: "The Bash Brothers"
Time to let the Bash Brothers stretch their "legs." I am attending a 2200 Warhammer Fantasy tournament with Adepticon missions at the FLGS. This tournie will be my first one with a painted/based army. Squee!!!
Sadly, I couldn't fit in my fun units. like Trolls with Throgg and Dragon Ogres. One day, I will be able to run my dream "Monster Mash" list with Throgg and Kholek Suneater. Soon....
Props to anyone, who gets the reference to my army's name.

Panda-monium: WoC Spell Marker
I always feel like a jerk when I have to remind people that Pandemonium is in play when I play my Warriors of Chaos. So, obviously the solution was to get a panda bear toy as a reminder! I got the idea from announcing "Rolling Panda" whenever I throw the bones to cast the spell.
I painted a 3rd of Tzeentch to fit with the rest of my army. Also, I dabbed a little Scorpion Green and Bleached Bone in the eyes for the possessed look.
That's right. This panda has a Tzeentch My Little Pony-style cutie mark. I found the panda for $2 at Micheal's (A craft story in the USA).

Dragon Ogres WoC
I love the monsters of the WoC book and I think that they add variety to the endless plate armored legions. Dragon Ogres are surprisingly great! They are fast, have 4 wounds, and can get up to Strength 7! They make great flank chargers as my Warriors waddle up the middle.
I converted these out of Gors and DE Cold Ones. I wanted my Dragon Ogres to look more like miniature Shaggoths than Ogres.
I still need to either convert a 6 one or make a little unit filler. I can't figure out how I want to run them either 3 or 2x2 (No rank bonus though) or 3x3 (expensive!).
I had to green stuff some fur where the two models connected.

There's a troll in the dungeon....Oh, my Throgg!
My Chaos trolls kitbashed from Ogre bulls and 40k Nob heads. I wanted to have fat little, pukey hulks running amok in my army. Again, I avoid GW's metals and river trolls aren't Chaos enough for me. No sir, I don't like it.
These pictures came out a little wonky in the color department, so...my bad?
I made sure to repeatedly ask the wife, if this was the right vomit color when painting this while watching TV with her. She approved.
Throgg had to be there and I was inspired by King Hippo from Punch-Out! when I created him, so he has a cape. He also has a staff with what is meant to be warpstone to represent his regenerative abilities.
This guy is surprisingly my favorite of the unit. He just looks so serious standing there with his brew. He embodies "Come at me, bro." I used Chaos Marauder shields to cover the gut plate holes. The foam is green stuff and the beer glass is from the Ogre bull sprue.
This 2-headed fellow was inspired by the picture of Chaos trolls from the WoC army book. The troll's skin is goblin green basecoat, Scorpion green "highlights" if you could call them that, then Thraka Green wash. I like the cartoony effect and I may use it for my 40k orks. I am not sure, yet.

The Warhost of Vigo the Unholy: My Warriors of Chaos Part 3 - Hellcannons?
The Hellcannon model is awesome, but I loathe GW's metals. This hatred is a fallacy because I am endeared with Privateer Press' metals. One of my new found loves is pinning warbeasts and warjacks ever since I ponied up for the citadel pin vise.
Anyway, I decided that I didn't want to buy the Hellcannon model, so I looked for alternatives. I saw a post of another player using Todd Macfarlane's Warriors of Astrology Gemini to represent his hellcannon. The post was found here The Inspiration Here is my take on it.
These "model" is awesome for 2 reasons for me. 1) I wanted my arm to have a Monster Mash theme, so this baddie fits right in. Plus, I can see this lug raging off and eating its crew way easier than the official model. 2) You get 2 of these guys in one model because the above picture is half of it. Here's his baby brudda.

I used cork to make it seem that Vigo, my general, was summoning these daemonic machines from Hell or its hellish Fantasy equivalent. The bases are from movement trays. The crew are Ungor painted Hellboy red (Scab red). I painted their bodies Mithril Silver to make them look like living metal. The armor is Enchanted Blue, which is a theme color of my army. Another great thing about his model is that it is WYSIWYG since the cannon has Chaos Armor.
I feared that people may scoff at me using a toy to play Warhammer with, but everyone so far loves them and I receive many compliments for them.
